Timed Digital Studies
In an effort to improve my speed with illustration and understanding of value, I took on a small personal project where I made digitally illustrated portrait studies.
While I illustrate a lot of portraits, I noticed that a personal struggle I had in these kinds of drawings was speed. To try and improve this, I created a challenge for myself to illustrate a portrait each day with a set time limit, which I chose based on the complexity of the reference image. To also emphasize building a knowledge of value, I limited myself to a strictly black-and-white palette.
